Jennie Chin Hansen of San Francisco, CA, is a member of the AARP Board of Directors, Class of 2008. During this biennium, she is chair of the AARP Foundation Board of Trustees and continues to serve as a member and Vice Chair of the Board Committee on Membership.

In 2005, Ms. Hansen retired as executive director of On Lok, Inc., a nonprofit family of organizations providing comprehensive primary, acute and long-term care community based services to nearly 950 frail seniors and 5,000 well seniors throughout San Francisco. On Lok is the prototype for PACE (Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly), which was signed into legislation in 1997 making this Medicare/Medicaid program available to all 50 states.

Ms. Hansen began her career in community and public health nursing in urban and rural settings. She later taught at two California universities. In 1980 she joined On Lok as a research associate, and later assumed roles as deputy director, director, and most recently as executive director. She is now a Senior Fellow at the University of California, San Francisco, Center for the Health Professions and a part time nursing faculty member at San Francisco State University.

Ms. Hansen currently serves in various leadership roles that include Commissioner of the Medicare Payment Advisory Committee (MedPAC) with the GAO, board member of the National Academy of Social Insurance, Advisory Board of the Institute for the Future of Aging Services, the Robert Wood Johnson Executive Nurse Fellows Program and the California Health Care Foundation Health Care Fellows Program. She holds or had held numerous other volunteer positions including president of the 8,000-member American Society on Aging and founding board member of the National PACE Association.

Among Ms. Hansen's awards are the 2005 Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) Administrator's Award, the 2002 Gerontological Society of America's Maxwell Pollack Award for Productive Aging, the Women's Healthcare Executive Woman of the Year of Northern California; in 2000, and Women Who Could be President Honoree from the League of Women Voters of San Francisco in 1997. She also received the University of California at San Francisco School of Nursing Distinguished Alumni Award in 1999, the Boston College Alumni Award for Excellence in Public Service, and was inducted into the American Academy of Nurses in November, 2005. Ms Hansen is also the incoming President-Elect for the 2006-2008 AARP Biennium.
