Mark Masselli is the President/CEO of Community Health Center, Inc., Connecticut’s largest and most comprehensive provider of primary health care services for the uninsured and underserved. Along with a small group of Wesleyan University students and community activists, including Jerry Weitzman and Reba Moses, Mark founded CHC in 1972.  With a personal commitment that health care is a right and not a privilege, Mark brought an entrepreneurial spirit to his non-profit organization, building a network of CHC sites that met the highest standard in both care and environment.  Today, CHC is located in over 140 locations from Stamford to Groton and up to Enfield – serving 70,000 patients statewide. Providing medical, dental and behavioral health services, CHC is a nationally recognized innovator in the delivery and the development of primary care services to special populations.

Mark has played an important leadership role or was a founding member of many health and human services initiatives in Middletown, including New Horizons Battered Women’s Shelter, Nehemiah Housing Corporation, and Oddfellows Youth Playhouse.  He and his wife, Jennifer, opened a community dance hall, Vinnie’s Jump and Jive, named in honor of Vinnie Amato.

In addition to local issues, Mark has worked on a range of international human rights issues. He has worked with His Holiness the Dalai Lama and has traveled in Tibet, Nepal, India and China working on the issues facing the Tibetan people. He also was active in the development of the Bishop Tutu Refugee relief agency during the critical years fighting the apartheid system in South Africa.

Mark is Chairman of the Middletown Housing Authority and is a member of the Chamber’s Central Business Bureau.  He is also a member of the Conversation Club and is a trustee of the Goodspeed Opera House Foundation.  Mark has been involved in a number of initiatives to revitalize Middletown for both businesses and residents, leading a successful charge to establish the Inn at Middletown, and pioneering the creation of a free Wi-Fi zone on Main Street through the Chamber’s Technology Committee.

Mark was the recipient of the Middlesex Chamber of Commerce 2008  Distinguished Citizen Award and the 2008 Middlesex County Bar Association “Liberty Bell” Award and the Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence ( CCADV) 2008 leadership award

Mark is married to Jennifer Alexander, founder of the Kidcity Children’s Museum. They and their four children  live in downtown Middletown.
