Pete Gutierrez is Service Line Administrator for the primary care division of Denver Health known as Denver Community Health Services (DCHS.) In this capacity, Pete has operational responsibilities as provided by 650 employees serving over 100,000 patients annually. Pete led the project to convert the scheduling system to Advanced Access Scheduling in all DCHS teams at 10 sites by the end of 2003. This process improvement redesign fundamentally changed the way patients access healthcare through approximately 350,000 annual encounters in DCHS. The “PDSA” model for improvement and the Idealized Design of Clinical Office Practice (IDCOP) were the guiding principles for the implementation of Dr. Mark Murray’s concept of “Open Access” scheduling now commonly known as “Advanced Access.”

Prior to working with Denver Health, Pete was Director of Patient Services at People’s Clinic in Boulder and served as administrator of two private group practices. Prior to these 17 years in operations, Pete received a Bachelors degree from the University of Florida.
