New director to lead New Horizons domestic violence services in Middletown

The Community Health Center has appointed Alyssa Martin as the director of New Horizons, a 24/7 service that shelters victims of intimate violence and provides extensive community support, education and outreach to victims of intimate partner violence in Middlesex County.

Martin began her journey with New Horizons and CHC as a community educator and volunteer coordinator, according to a press release. She graduated with master of arts degree in women, gender and sexuality studies from Brandeis University.

As the new director, Martin will be responsible for all aspects of New Horizons program, from the efficient, effective, and safe operation of the 24-hour shelter and crisis line to community education and support and court-based victim advocacy services, the release said.

“I look forward to this opportunity to further our mission of providing emergency shelter to victims and their children, but also working every day to end intimate partner violence in Middlesex County and beyond,” Martin said in a prepared statement.

“Alyssa joins us at a critical time, as we work toward our goal of ending intimate partner violence in the future, while responding immediately and effectively to individuals suffering now during this pandemic,” Margaret Flinter, senior vice president and clinical director of CHC, said in the statement.

“New Horizons is unique among domestic violence program in its full integration into a community health center. We look forward to Alyssa’s ideas and impact as she leads her team in supporting and empowering victims and survivors of domestic violence,” Flinter added.
