Community Health Center breaks ground on new location

STAMFORD — Community Health Center broke ground Friday on a recently acquired building at 22 Fifth St., which will serve as the organization’s homebase in Stamford once renovations are complete.

CHC’s operations are currently housed at 141 Franklin St., said spokesperson Leslie Gianelli, but it lacks badly needed space.

“We’ve basically outgrown our site on Franklin Street,” she told the Stamford Advocate. “So we’ve purchased a building on Fifth Street … and essentially what we’re doing is going down to the studs and recreating that building.”

The Fifth Street building, Gianelli said, previously functioned as a medical facility, but is sorely outdated.

On Friday, several CHC heads were joined by Mayor David Martin, City Rep. Alice Liebson, D-11, and Connecticut Sen. Carlo Leone to mark the start of those renovations, which Gianelli said will likely take the better part of next year to complete.

“We’re looking to open that building and move many of our operations from Franklin Street to Fifth Street next summer,” she said.
