For domestic violence survivors, homelessness can be fear, reality

New Horizons Domestic Violence Shelter Featured in New Haven Register

Kai Belton, executive director of New Horizons, a domestic violence shelter and advocacy nonprofit in Middletown, said leaving a domestic violence situation can be challenging because there is so often financial manipulation.

“The immediate need is safety, so once these individuals are safe, then we help them come up with a plan,” Belton said. “A lot of times these women don’t have access to their own money, so it’s about becoming financially independent. In many cases, if they don’t have jobs or if the abuser was the caretaker, it’s about empowering them to find employment.”

Dr. Marwan Haddad, Medical Director for the Center for Key Populations and leader of the Weitzman ECHO buprenorphine session, was featured  in the New York Times for his work helping primary care providers across the country learn how to treat patients struggling with opioid addiction.

(CHC) Chief Dental Officer Sheela Tummala, DDS, MPH, was presented with the Outstanding Clinician Award at the National Network for Oral Health Access (NNOHA) annual conference. Dr. Tummala was recognized for her exceptional work as a practicing dentist, her advocacy for her patients, her commitment to research and her service as an educator.

The National Institute for Medical Assistant Advancement (NIMAA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Elena Thomas Faulkner as its CEO. She joins NIMAA from Denver’s La Clinica Tepeyac, Inc. where she served as Chief Strategy Officer, and will be based in NIMAA’s Denver office. 

Community Health Center, Inc. Receives $510,000 to Combat the National Opioid Crisis

Community Health Center, Inc. is pleased to announce the receipt of a $510,000 grant from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to expand access to integrated substance use disorder and mental health services as part of its ongoing efforts to address the national opioid crisis.
