New Horizons Domestic Violence Shelter Featured in New Haven Register

Kai Belton, executive director of New Horizons, a domestic violence shelter and advocacy nonprofit in Middletown, said leaving a domestic violence situation can be challenging because there is so often financial manipulation.

“The immediate need is safety, so once these individuals are safe, then we help them come up with a plan,” Belton said. “A lot of times these women don’t have access to their own money, so it’s about becoming financially independent. In many cases, if they don’t have jobs or if the abuser was the caretaker, it’s about empowering them to find employment.”

Dr. Marwan Haddad, Medical Director for the Center for Key Populations and leader of the Weitzman ECHO buprenorphine session, was featured  in the New York Times for his work helping primary care providers across the country learn how to treat patients struggling with opioid addiction.

CMS Approves Medicaid Reimbursement for eConsults in Connecticut

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) have approved payment by Medicaid to federally qualified health centers in Connecticut for electronic consultations (eConsults) with medical specialists, giving the state’s medically underserved population greater access to expert care.

Connecticut is the first state in the nation to obtain Medicaid reimbursements for eConsults.
