Beth Robins Roth, APRN

Beth Robins Roth, APRN, SEP, has been practicing meditation since 1987 and teaching meditation since 1993. She received her Master's Degree in Nursing from Yale University in 1987.  In 1992 and 1993 she trained with Jon Kabat-Zinn, PhD., founder of the internationally acclaimed Stress Reduction Clinic at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester.  In 1993 she founded the Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction Program (MBSR) at the Community Health Center in Meriden, CT, where she teaches meditation in Spanish and English to inner-city patients with chronic and life-threatening illnesses. She has taught Mindfulness-based Stress Reduction internationally to health care and mental health professionals, medical patients, and university students and faculty in the Dominican Republic and Bolivia.  From 1993 - 2009 she taught MBSR as an accredited elective course for graduate students at Yale University.  She teaches mindfulness meditation to Yale University faculty and staff through the Yale Work-Life Program. She teaches Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction at Fresh Yoga in New Haven (freshyoga.com/meditation.html). She does teaching, consulting, conference presentations and staff development training for hospitals, health centers, schools and universities throughout Connecticut and New England.  Since 2000, she teaches Buddhism and meditation through the Adult Religious Education Department at the Unitarian Society in Hamden, CT.  She has published research and descriptive articles and two book chapters about her work teaching mindfulness meditation.  She founded a Family Dharma column for Tricycle e-magazine (www.tricycle.com) about incorporating Buddhist teachings and meditation practices in parenting and family life.  Since 1988, she has attended approximately 22 silent meditation retreats of 7-14 days duration at the Insight Meditation Society in Barre, MA.  In 2014 she completed the year long Integrated Study and Practice Program at the Bare Center for Buddhist Studies.  In 2015 she completed a three-year professional training program in Somatic Experiencing Trauma Healing.  In 2016 she opened Hummingbird Trauma Resolution, LLC, a private practice in North Branford, CT, where she specializes in healing unresolved trauma/PTSD, physical pain and chronic stress.  She lives in New Haven, CT.  You can visit her website (www.newhavenweb.com/bethroth) for more information and a list of publications.
