New Horizons Domestic Violence Services Receives $5,000 Grant for Shelter Resident Supplies

Community Health Center, Inc.’s domestic violence services, New Horizons, is pleased to announce the receipt of a $5,000 grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County for food and personal supplies for shelter residents.

New Horizons residents and families often come to the shelter without basic necessities like clothes and toiletries due to the urgency of their situation. With this grant New Horizons will be better able to support the needs of  victims of domestic violence and their children.

“Victims of domestic violence often come to our shelter with very little, if any, personal supplies,” said Dr. Kimberly Citron, CHC’s Director of Domestic Violence Services, Research and Education. “It is our duty at New Horizons to provide them with basic necessities like food, clothing, and other personal effects so they can keep their focus on being safe and healthy in this difficult time.”

CHC has operated the New Horizons 24/7 emergency shelter for over 30 years, shelter providing services to women, children and male victims fleeing domestic violence. From July 2016 to June 2017, the New Horizons Family Violence Victim Advocate provided services to an estimated 1,663 individual victims of domestic violence, provided 1,881 counseling sessions to community clients, and 71 victims of domestic violence and their children were provided emergency shelter.

“We are extremely grateful for this grant from the Community Foundation of Middlesex County which will enable us to continue to advocate and protect victims of domestic violence in our community,” said Dr. Citron.

This grant is funded by the Community Foundation of Middlesex County/Sari A. Rosenbaum Fund for Women and Girls, Mary Klaaren Fund for Women & Girls, and the Bee & Missionary Society Fund for Women & Girls.
