CHC Begins Work with the Homeless

In the late 90s, Connecticut witnessed a major homeless crisis as state psychiatric hospitals began to discharge long-time patients into the community with no support in place. By the early 2000s, this was a full-blown crisis. CHC responded with the Wherever You Are (WYA) program, a health care for the homeless service in shelters in Middletown, Meriden, and New Britain. CHC later added shelter-based care in New London and Danbury shelters, as well as in food pantries and soup kitchens. A team of medical, dental and behavioral health providers meet patients wherever they are on their journey to regain health, housing, and hope.
