Why Serve with AmeriCorps at CHC?

An Impactful Year in Health Care

By joining Healthy Communities as an AmeriCorps Member, you’ll experience a year of service on the frontlines of healthcare, making a difference in the lives of traditionally marginalized and underserved communities.  While you gain experience in health care delivery, you‘ll learn valuable skills as a leader and in the public health profession.

You’ll serve as a critical figure in providing healthcare education and outreach services within our local communities as well as connecting individuals to healthcare resources.

The Service Year – What to Expect

Nina Nhatavong 1

Nina Nhatavong, AmeriCorps Member 2021-2022

“Be prepared to be uncomfortable in terms of lessons you will learn about yourself and the world around you because that is how you foster growth and change. My AmeriCorps service year allowed me to network with many community leaders both within the Community Health Center and in other fields that helped me define my own professional goals after my service term. I also had the opportunity to meet my future employer during my service term at a community outreach event.”

Rebecca Stearns

Rebecca Stearns, AmeriCorps Member 2021-2022

“You will be part of a team that is just as excited about your program as you are.  This was the most refreshing part of my term.  Working with others that wanted to do work and help each other succeed is not something I found in a lot of other positions.  You will be eager for each day as you see progress and accomplishments.”

Mariahmartin 1

Mariah Martin, AmeriCorps Member 2021-2022

“Expect to be pushed to become your most creative, inspired and passionate self. It can be overwhelming at first but once you get into it and figure out what excites you it becomes so rewarding.”

Beyond the Service Year

A year as an AmeriCorps Member will not only improve the health care of our community, but will give you an advantage as you enter into college/graduate school or pursue a career in public health!
